Is there a cheaper version? surprised nobody has come up with one....

Anyway, I am fantasising about getting this> EGLU with run < but it is VERY expensive, before I save up and take the plunge are they worth it? Any issues at all with them?

I just really fancy the idea of an easy to clean, red mite free house! lol

Some of our members used to recommend Green Frog coops but I've no idea how they compare in price to the Eglu?

See the thing that attracts me to Eglu is the no corners, no crevices and cracks..... The price however is maddening... I am shocked nobody has come up with a molded plastic cheaper option..

Saw those yesterday.... also some rather intriguing saddle holders converted in to hen shelters! lol

Way too late for Mama Owl, I'm sure, but I bought an Eglu this summer after battling red mite for a year, and I'm very pleased with it. I bought the Eglu Up without the run as we have a six-foot wall all round our garden (and no predator problems in the 10 years that I have kept hens), so that limited the price to pay a little. It's relatively easy to clean. The hens were a bit reluctant to use it to start with but they have got used to it!

Meghen - how many hens do you have in your Go Up? I'm thinking of getting for large breed hens and I think I might need to go for the Cube to accommodate them. What's your experience with the size of the Go Up?

It currently houses 7 medium-sized birds, AyeAyeMagpie. I do leave the nesting box open, as I can't guarantee that I will be up at the crack of dawn to open it up, so at least one of them sleeps in there. Likewise, I don't shut the outer door at night, but will have to do so in winter or they will get cold and damp. I would be happy to use if for up to 8 hens as long as they are not very big breeds.

You could contact Omlet and ask to see one in use - they have an "ambassador" programme and there might be someone living near you who would be happy to show you theirs. When I bought mine I received an email asking if I would like to be an "ambassador" and show prospective buyers my Eglu, but it unfortunately came at a time when I was too busy to deal with it.

Edit to say that mine is the Eglu Cube (the largest) and not the Eglu Up as I wrote in my earlier post. Have just been on their website and they say it can house 10 but I think that would be pushing it a bit. I also looked for their ambassador programme and can't see anything about it, so it could be that it is just in France, where I live.

Thank you, that's really helpful.
