Help - new chooks!

Post by boaters » 08 Feb 2018, 21:01

Hi - getting 5 new chooks this w/e. How long should I keep them in their house before letting them into the run? Is a couple of hours enough? It's advertised as a 10-chicken house, and the run (fully enclosed) is 6'x8'.
Probably the first question of many!
Thanks. J

Probably at least 24 hours to let them know that this is their home now. You may still have to chivvy them in at the end of the day for a while. Good luck and happy hen keeping!

oohh exciting times! Cant wait util I get hens again... I miss them so much.

I usually get my hens in the morning, put them in the hen house with the pop-hole open and let them figure out what's what..having some yummy corn outside hidden under a bit of straw helps.. As Kate says you may have to encourage some of the sillier ones in at night :-)
