Re: sad day first cull

Good for you :thumbright: I've 'done' about 15 over the past few years, but still dread doing it. I get peace of mind though, knowing that if I have a severely injured or seriously ill bird I can immediately prevent further suffering, and, in the case of cockerels that they don't have to go through ...

Re: Purchasing hens.

Happychicks in Pilling near Blackpool supply a variety of breeds at varying ages and deliver nationwide. My very first hybrids came from here.

It may be worth having a look at their website :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. This sounds like " Sour Crop" or an impacted crop. Unfortunately I'm about to go to work, so haven't just now got the time to explain what you need to do. Put the above into our search box above for previous advice on this subject, or Google "Sour Crop". Sorry I can't he...

Re: Got my new girls and boy - when to worm?

It's much easier if you use Marriage's pre-treated pellets from FarmandPetPlace .They have 10kg and 20kg sacks.

They're situated in Wales, but they only charge £2.99 for delivery - mine arrived only 2 days after I ordered it :thumbright:

Re: They refuse to lay

Possible causes - these particular hens are probably not happy with the hot weather ( I know mine aren't and most of them aren't laying because of it ), they've started to moult they're too fat and lazy from snacking on corn Corn is fattening, and also creates heat within their body. It's good in th...

Re: Weak chicken with breathing problems and now our cockera

If there are no chickens kept in the first coop now, they'll be hiding in the cracks and crevices waiting to pounce. If you can afford it, get hold of some Ficam W. Otherwise, liberally shake ant powder (containing Permethrin) everywhere - even on the floor under the coops.

Good luck

Re: Weak chicken with breathing problems and now our cockera

There are a number of ailments this could be but first of all, have you checked the coop for redmite ?

It seems 2014 is a particularly good year for them, and anaemia caused by these blood sucking monsters can show as a respiratory problem due to lack of oxygen circulating

Re: Weld Mesh Floor

Instead, you could fold 12" to 18" outwards at rightangles on the surface and cover this with earth.

I've read somewhere that when a fox digs to try to get under an enclosure, it's usually within 6" from the fence, any further and it gives up.

Where are the eggs from ?

Maybe incubation had been started on that one before you got them ? :-k
