Re: Scaley Leg

Thank you Kated, it could possibly be milky, the plastic bottle isn't clear. I will have to paint it on, he is a Sablepoot so can't just stick his foot in.

Scaley Leg

Hi, my cockerel had scaly leg, I treated him with Harkers and also used Johnson Scaly Leg cream. Three weeks on and his legs are looking a lot better. I have bought some Benzyl Benzoates from eBay and it arrived today. It is in liquid form (like water), I thought I was getting cream (teach me to rea...

Re: Egg peritonitis

Sorry Lily I have no idea but I hate it when people read other peoples plights and no-one answers. I'm sure someone will come along and give you the advise. If this requires an urgent answer I would ring a vet, if not then perhaps google or go on FB there are lots of Poultry Pages on there.

Re: Grrr some people!!!

Thanks drfish I will get some dummy eggs. I'm not sure who is/are the culprits. I put the ex-bats in a run in the big run so they could get use to each other and she did lay a couple of eggs in there and didn't bother with them. Anyway I have kept her and the other ex-bat in the coop this morning as...

Re: Grrr some people!!!

Unfortutnly it wasn’t a soft shell or even cracked. It had a hole in it, I would say between a 5p & 10p piece. I will keep her in the shed if she hasn’t laid in the morning. Apart from food/water I will put a couple of toys in with her too and let her out at 12.

Grrr some people!!!

When I got home at lunchtime today my new ex-bat had laid her egg in the run and yes it got eaten by all of them (5 in total) I put a question up on the forum (where they came from) “if my girl hasn’t laid an egg that I should keep her in the coop on her own until lunchtime (3 hours) with food and w...

Re: Cockerel Behaviour

Ok, went home at lunchtime and I didn't need to worry. The ex-bats were enjoying the hanging cabbage and melon, Harold sitting high on his perch watching over his harem and the others just scratching about. Phew!

Cockerel Behaviour

I introduced my 2 ex-bats to my 3 posh birds on Saturday. They have been in a run inside the big run for a week so they could get to know each other without hurting each other. I was more afraid the ex-bats would attack my posh as they are twice the size. How wrong I was! I let them free range in th...

Re: Found chicken on her back!! - Sad news :-(

The vet advised that it's like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted as regards to the 3 I have left. If they are going to get it they will already have it by now or they may have antibodies that are protecting them... only time will tell. I have already disinfected the coop/run and eq...

Re: Found chicken on her back!! - Sad news :-(

Within 24 hours Annie deteriorated and I then I suspected Marek’s and so did the avian vet. Because she didn’t improve over the week – ten days and the last 24 hours dramatic change in her so I had her put to sleep… very sad she was only 7 months old. So, other than changing all the bedding and wash...

Re: How to tell when scaly leg is gone?

Hi HD, you can buy something called Harkers, it is actually for Pigeons but you can use it on Chickens. You put 4/5 drops on the back of the neck, repeat after 7 days. I have been told it is excellent stuff and works a treat as it kills all mites/lice and other small nasties. It can be bought from a...

Re: Found chicken on her back!!

I had a good look last night, washed with salty warm water and applied purple spray. She has 2 very tiny areas what looks like a graze rather than a cut, like when you scrape your skin. No swelling/puffiness or redness. I have put her in the garage in the dog create today where she can get some peac...
